The
Mountain States Fly-In has traditionally been a meeting place for Canard
Wing experimental aircraft (typically Dragonfly, Quickie and their
derivatives), owners, builders, and wannabe's who live too far away to
attend the Annual Field of Dreams Canard Wing Fly-In in October
in the Midwest.
Hosting the Mountain States
Fly-In for the past few years has been Pat Panzera of CONTACT! Magazine,
presiding over his unique Alternative Engine Forum and the Corvair
Confab, profoundly entertaining and informative FREE
Experimental Aircraft Engine Forums held on Saturday during the event.
Weather will be Severe Clear
- Probably late enough in the year to miss the spring showers, and still
early enough to avoid the summer desert heat. However, it would be
prudent to plan for a reasonably warm days, and desert cold at nights.

Pat reports that we have the run of the airport, the use of their
air conditioned meeting building, and use of their BBQ area for the
Saturday Awards Dinner. As usual, though it is incumbent on those who
are driving in to bring enough portable chairs for themselves and for
the pilots who are flying their plastic planes to Jean.
Parking
is by tie-down. There is no covered parking at Jean. Most of the parking
areas are hard pack, some are concrete. Fuel is available. However,
there still may be a temporary $500 fuel use fee reserved against your
credit card which is reversed in about 7-10 days. Jean is located 21 nm
SW of McCarran International Airport.
Sam Kittle
has again this year volunteered to cook chicken and tri-top for us like he
did last year so 'Da Awards Dinner is on
for Saturday night. About mid-day on Saturday, Sam will head out to
Costco and get enough supplies to cover the pre-sold meals. Cost will be
in the $8-$10 range, depending on what we decide the final menu to be. If
you have any suggestions of if you want to help with the cookout,
please contact
Pat Panzera
The Fly-In is
FREE to participants, while
The Dinner is an extra-cost item. There'll
be Awards recognizing the Best of Show and the Longest Distance, so
donations will be cheerfully accepted to offset these expenses.

Please note that automobile
fuel is not available on the field, but we can help bring you some
if you need it, especially if you can supply your own cans. We don't
know if the fuel at the local gas stations (Shell and Mobil) have
ethanol or not, or what percentage it might contain. A call to the
Shell station didn't do any good as no one knew what we were talking
about. Odds are good that the fuel contains ethanol, but less
than 10 percent.
