08/08 – Welcome
Welcome to the inaugural issue of HANGAR TALK, a monthly
e-newsletter developed as a joint venture
between EAA and CONTACT! Magazine, expressly for
individuals like you who have an interest in
learning about, building, as well as flying
experimental aircraft. HANGAR TALK is dedicated to sharing knowledge and
building experiences, successes as well as foils and follies. We will focus on addressing
your questions, identifying and explaining your fears
and apprehensions, discussing experiences and challenges, and providing
learning tips for prospective and new builders.
It will include your comments and questions, and
the challenges you have experienced
while searching for or building that "perfect"
project, panel, engine or prop. You'll also be able to share your flight-testing
experiences with us, ongoing or first-flights,
so that we can share them
with others.
Take a close look at this issue. The first article
tells the story of John Steere’s Supercharged Ford Thunderbird |

and offers detailed descriptions of his systems and methodology. A second article
touches on an issue that effects us all and offers a potential solution
that will undoubtedly be tested and proven through experimental
aviation. Other monthly topics
features may include How To's that may help with your project or at
least stir your imagination. A Personal View, a monthly column of interest to fliers; The
Experimental Aviation Glossary, a living document that will help define aviation terminology
for the homebuilder. This Month’s Poll, where questions are asked and your response is shared with others.
Our goal is to provide you with firsthand information that will not only pique your interest but also help you live your dream of
building or restoring aircraft. We hope you find each issue interesting and helpful. Please direct your comments or questions about the newsletter to
